4. Editing Autoconf Input Files

This mode is used for editing autoconf input files. It is automatically invoked for buffers visiting the following types of files:

• any file ending with an extension of `.m4'

• any file named `configure' ending with an extension of either `.in' or `.ac'.

To configure this package please view the source code. This can be done by typing C-x 4 l autoconf-mode.

4.1 About Autoconf

Autoconf is an extensible package of m4 macros that produce shell scripts to automatically configure software source code packages. These scripts can adapt the packages to many kinds of UNIX-like systems without manual user intervention. Autoconf creates a configuration script for a package from a template file that lists the operating system features that the package can use, in the form of m4 macro calls.
